The Level of Difficulty on both tests are similar. You may find certain test section easier in one than the other. Some key differences of both tests are listed below.
Listening:
CELPIP Listening section uses Canadian Speakers, whereas IELTS Listening uses native speakers of Canada, Australia, US, and UK. CELPIP Listening Section may include some non-scored Test Development sections.
Reading:
Reading sections of both IELTS and CELPIP are almost similar. Depending on your preference, you may prefer reading on a computer screen or on a paper.
Writing:
Writing Section of IELTS Paper-based exam includes writing on paper. On the other hand, CELPIP Writing includes typing. Some may feel flow of thoughts lining up with their Typing speed while others may feel more comfortable in traditional paper-based writing.
CELPIP has built-in spell-checker which is an advantage compared to Writing of IELTS Paper-based test.
Speaking:
Speaking Component of IELTS Exam is a direct conversation with an examiner. While in CELPIP Speaking, you record your responses in Computer. Depending on your comfort level, you may excel at speaking face-to-face or recording yourself in computer.
